Pre-School Handbook

Clothing

Parent should dress their child in clothing which is comfortable (seasonal and proper fitting), practical (appropriate for the playground, painting, tumbling, etc.), and easy to manage in the bathroom.  Safe, comfortable footwear is important: open toed shoes or clogs are inappropriate.

Sneakers are required for gym, and students will not be permitted to participate in gym class without them.  Please make sure their names are clearly marked on all articles of clothing: coats, hats, gloves, sweater, etc.

Children must have a complete seasonally-appropriate change of clothing at school; include underwear, pants, and socks.  These items should be placed in a plastic bag and labeled with your child's name.  Soiled clothing should be laundered at home and replaced the next day.

Should a child's clothing become soiled from a spill or bathroom mishap, your child will be encouraged to take care of his/her own personal needs.  In the event adult assistance is necessary, the assistance will be done in the presence of another adult.

Communication

Keeping the lines of communication open and clear is an essential part of a successful and effective program.  Our teachers are always available to discuss parents' questions or concerns.  Parents should leave a message on the Pre-school answering machine or write a note requesting their child's teacher contact them and indicate convenient times.  Please note that verbal messages from children are not sufficient.  Teachers will not be called out of class to take phone calls; please leave a message.  The principal of Our Lady Help of Christians is also available to address parents' questions and concerns if they are not able to be answered by the child's teacher.

A monthly calendar and newsletter will keep parents informed of the curriculum, activities, field trips, and information about current events.

Conferences

Conferences are scheduled in January of each year.  These conferences are a great opportunity to meet with each child's teacher and discuss his/her progress.
