School Handbook

W. TRANSPORTATION

1. Bicycles

Only students in grades 3 to 8 may ride a bike to school. If a child is riding his/her bicycle to school, it must be parked and locked in the bike rack in the schoolyard. Children are to walk their bicycles in and out of the schoolyard. The school is not responsible for any theft or damage. Parents are responsible if their child rides a bike to school. Children should know the safety guidelines for bicycles. The principal may take away the privilege of bringing a bicycle to school if unsafe or inappropriate bike behaviors occur.

2. Bus

The School Districts of Abington, Upper and Lower Moreland Township, Hatboro-Horsham, and Philadelphia provide bus transportation for students who reside at a distance greater than one mile from the school.

Children who ride the school bus are expected to behave in a safe and orderly manner at all times. Failure to do so will result in their being denied the privilege of riding the bus. Children must ride the same bus both morning and afternoon as assigned to them by the school district. Bus riders are not permitted to walk home unless the parents send a note to the homeroom teacher and the principal asking permission for this exception.

Please do not request permission, written or verbal, from the principal for a student who is a non-rider to take the bus to any location on a given day. It is not within the jurisdiction of the school to grant such a request. However, if you wish to pursue this, you may call the transportation office of the school district and make this request if an emergency arises. The telephone numbers for the various transportation offices are:

Abington District 215-884-0421

Lower Moreland District 215-938-0230

                                        Upper Moreland District 215-830-1525

                                        Hatboro-Horhsam District 215-672-8704

                                        Philadelphia District 215-875-5860

Each bus line is led by a safety.

3. Car Pick-up

Parents who pick up students must park their cars and meet the students at the school dismissal area. Students are not allowed on the grass. Running is prohibited. A teacher will oversee car pick-up procedures daily.

4. Walkers

There are two dismissal lines for walkers: Marian Road and Elkins Avenue. Each line is accompanied by a teacher.
