V. EMERGENCIES

A. EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS

1. Early Dismissal of School

Occasionally, the children will be dismissed early due to faculty meetings, etc., which will be announced in the newsletter for that month. Scheduled early dismissals are at 12:25 P.M. unless otherwise noted on the school calendar.

On days that school is open but there is a possibility of an early closing due to weather, parents should be sure that their child knows what to do in the event they are not home or cannot be reached. Children will be dismissed as buses arrive, so it is important that every child knows what to do.

           2. Inclement Weather

OLHC follows the early closing decisions of the Abington School District. Please listen to KYW for these numbers:

                                    Abington 301          Abington 410

If early dismissal is called for, our emergency phone chain will be activated. You will receive a phone call from one of our Chain Captains (they have your home phone and a work number for those families for whom they are responsible). These captains will call the school and let us know which families have been contacted.

NO CHILD WILL BE DISMISSED WITHOUT PERSONAL CONTACT WITH A PARENT/GUARDIAN.

During periods of inclement weather, parents much check KYW for possible school closings or delayed openings. It is imperative to the safety of all concerned that parents begin listening to KYW as early as possible.

The Abington School District Closing Number is 301. If parents hear Montgomery County #301, OLHC is also closed since Abington will not provide transportation. If there is a delayed opening for Abington, there is automatically a delayed opening for OLHC; for example, a 2-hour delay means a 10:25 AM opening instead of an 8:25 AM opening.

Since OLHC may still close or delay opening even if Abington opens, parents must listen to KYW for updates. OLHC’s number is 410. If there is a delayed opening, parents must not drop off children at school early, as there will be no one here to let them in.

B. EMERGENCY INFORMATION

At the beginning of each school year, parents are required to fill out a card for the school record with current names, addresses, telephone numbers, place of employment and emergency number to contact if parents cannot be reached. It is imperative that this information be kept up-to-date at all times. If you should have a change of address, telephone number, or place of employment, please notify the school immediately in writing. Also, if parents are divorced and there is a subsequent marriage, please notify the school of the new spouse’s name and place of employment. It is important to keep the principal informed of custody disputes. If an emergency should arise during school hours, it is very difficult to locate a child’s parents at the parent’s place of employment if the parent’s last name is different from that of the child and we are unaware of it.
